A Sassy Toddler is Like Having Your Own Personal Parrot
Toddler life is WILD. I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. They are both into everything. Most days I am lucky to survive, and I have to remind myself to laugh at the crazy things that happen so I don’t cry. I will say they do so many funny things. Living with Caia is like living with my own personal mini me with the same sassy attitude. I literally can’t even handle myself most days, so embracing that attitude from a toddler is quite challenging. Having a sassy toddler is like having your own personal parrot. They follow you everywhere and copy everything you say, the good and the bad.
I have to tell this story because I cannot stop laughing at it. *Please do not judge my parenting based off of this story. When I was at the PSI conference in July, my mom watched Caia and Emmi for us overnight. Emmi threw up, and my mom was trying to clean it up. Caia walks over to my mom to help her and says, “EW, Gigi, it smells like an a**crack in here!!” My mom instantly knew she heard that from me. (I know I definitely say that when I change gross diapers). My mom texted it to me, and I could not stop laughing. That story still gets me to this day. Like I said, toddlers are like your own personal parrots.
Yesterday, Caia, Emmi and I were at my grandma’s house. There was a giant bug on the side of her house that looked like a huge spider. Of course, she asks me to get it. I was terrified, but how could I say no to my grandma who is 87?? She hands me this pole to knock down the bug, and when I get it, I start screaming. It was not a spider but some sort of giant flying beetle. Caia looks right at my grandma and goes, “what the HELL is that?!” My grandma looked at me, and I just had to say that I did not teach her that, even though I most likely did. Hearing those kinds of things come out of a toddler’s mouth is so hard not to laugh.
Those are just a few examples of what I live with dealing with my sassy toddlers (mainly Caia). Luckily, Emmi is not at the age yet where she repeats everything like a parrot, but I know that day is coming. I will say toddlers are quite entertaining for sure. When I am having a stressful day with my toddlers, the house is a mess, and everyone is crying, I try to think of those stories because they will make me laugh. I know that having two toddlers under the age of 4 is so hard, especially when dealing with something like postpartum OCD. Just know that it does get better, and try to remember the funny stories.
